Welcome to the College of Science and Technology
The faculty and staff of the College of Science and Technology welcome you to the academic experience of a lifetime! We invite you to take full advantage of opportunities to create knowledge through scholarship and original research and to study with faculty mentors whose professional passions are teaching and learning. The curriculum and faculty members of this college prepare students to become successful professionals in a culturally diverse global economy that is becoming increasingly technical and scientifically advanced. Economic competitiveness and global environmental issues have inspired a renewed emphasis on science, technology, engineering and mathematics, and the innovations in these fields are changing our lives on a daily basis. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the top five fastest growing occupations include network systems analysts, health care professionals and computer software engineers. We are also entering the "Age of Biology" where discoveries in biotechnology and genomics will accelerate advances in medicine and agriculture.
The College of Science and Technology, founded in July 2007, rises from the solid foundation of departments that have long traditions of success. The mutual strengths and partnership opportunities that exist among mathematics, technology and natural science departments lead to innovative approaches for teaching and learning. As we work together to direct the continued evolution of our college, we have the unique opportunity to foster a culture of academic inquiry, a collaborative and interdisciplinary community of scholars, and traditions that inspire excellence in our current students and loyalty in our alumni.
We are committed to helping students achieve their personal and professional goals. Faculty members and professional advisors are dedicated to outstanding teaching and advising. They are passionate about mentoring students, engaging students in original research and nurturing them through the presentation and publication process. Students in our college are provided exceptional problem-solving opportunities in course assignments, laboratory projects and internship experiences. Students can choose from study abroad destinations that include the North Pole, England and Scotland, Panama and the U.S. Virgin Islands, and receive advice on the application process for professional schools, graduate schools and prestigious national honors including the Goldwater and Udall Scholarships.
Many of our current students are exemplary role models of success in academic, athletic, leadership and service endeavors. Our students are members of academic honorary societies, including Beta Beta Beta in biology, the American Chemical Society, Sigma Gamma Epsilon in geology, Upsilon Pi Epsilon in information technology, the Mathletes Math Club, and the Society of Physics Students.
The College of Science and Technology values and nurtures reflective risk-takers who possess both boundless creativity and meticulous attention to detail. We invite you to take your place among our current students who seize scholarship, leadership and service opportunities on campus and throughout life. Welcome to our community of learners, and please let us know how we can assist you with achieving your academic goals.
