Welcome from Dean Pat Shoemaker
Preparing students to become effective agents of change is a common thread running through 31 programs in the College of Education and Human Development. Undergraduate and graduate programs in the college's four academic divisions-School of Teacher Education and Leadership, the Department of Exercise, Sport and Health Education, the Department of Recreation, Parks and Tourism and the Department of Counselor Education focus on developing engaged professionals who meet the growing needs of people and communities.

Besides its well-known programs in elementary, middle and secondary education, the College now includes areas such as athletic training, sports administration, sports medicine, corporate/commercial fitness, health promotion, nutrition and dietetics, tourism, counselor education, educational leadership and special education. Students in our college are professionals-in-training and our faculty is renowned for implementing preparation programs with practitioners in each of these professions. Our enthusiastic and experienced faculty has been growing and renewing: over 75 percent of our faculty has been hired since 2000.
